Class Descriptions

Forrest Yoga

A challenging practice using a strong focus on the breath to create core strength and awareness in addition to the free flow of the energy through the spine. This practice focuses on healing of the physical and emotional bodies and is based on the teachings of Ana Forrest. Poses include arm balances, challenging backbends, and abdominals.

Hatha

Hatha yoga is classical system which coordinates body, breath, and mental focus. Consistent practice over time releases accumulated tensions in the muscles,calms frayed nerves, restructures alignment, detoxifies the blood stream, increases oxygen absorption, changes brain wave patterns, and induces felicity through improved respiration and hormonal circulation. Open to all levels and recommended for young and old, injured and athletic alike. Great to manage and reduce excessive tension and stress.

Integrated Yoga 1

An inclusive approach to yoga. Integrated Yoga will draw from a variety of yoga styles: Hatha, Vinyasa, Iyengar and others. This class offers a systematic introduction of these styles. It is a great starting place for someone new to yoga and a great overview for someone who has been practicing for some time.

Power Vinyasa

Power Vinyasa is a strengthening, flow-based yoga practice, focusing on sequenced asanas, vibrant ujjayi breath and invigorating movements. Pranayama, meditation, variations of the sun salutations and other asanas will be part of the class. This is a athletic, energizing practice that combines the breath with heartfelt themes.

Therapeutic

Relax and renew your body, mind and spirit while you enjoy the extraordinary health benefits of passive yoga poses. A series of fully supported, passive yoga poses designed to help the body rejuvenate and strengthen itself. Good for physical injuries, immune deficiency, high blood pressure, asthma, cancer, recovery from chemotherapy and radiation, and to relax and de-stress.

Vinyasa

Classes synchronize the breath with a flowing sequence of postures and use transitional vinyasa sequences between sustained postures as well. It is an astanga-based practice yet there are no predetermined asana sequences. Vinyasa flow teachers compose their classes in ways that connect poses with breath-synchronized movements. Asanas, vinyasa and pranayama are creatively sequenced to develop internal awareness, build heat and explore energizing effects. Many teachers include music to enhance the flow and rhythm of the class.

Viniyoga

Viniyoga is an approach to yoga in which breath initiates and guides movement focusing on movement of the spine. In Viniyoga, postures are practiced dynamically (through repetition of movement into and out of the pose) and statically (by holding the pose) to build flexibility and strength, with careful attention to sequencing. Both the form of yoga postures and the breath are adapted to meet student's needs. Viniyoga promotes clarity of mind and feeling of well being. It is suitable for all levels.

Yoga for Weight Management

Find and maintain your balance during this busy time in a class that focuses on getting healthier in all realms. Yoga is a great way to manage stress and recharge while doing something that is great for your body. We will spend time moving with the breath and improving strength and focus through alignment. In addition to highlighting poses intended to build core strength and improve endurance, we will practice pranayama, mantras and other tools that foster acceptance and compassion toward ourselves for it is an ongoing journey. Join this supportive atmosphere that is open to all students at any level.

Yoga: 50 & Better

A yoga class for individuals 50+ who have never practiced or are returning to yoga and are looking for increased flexibility and improved sense of well-being. Demonstration, verbal instruction and gentle adjustment as well as props are used to allow the student the best alignment possible given their current state of flexibility. Emphasis is placed on "listening to one's own body" as the best guide for the student. The serious practice of yoga is tempered with humor, compassion and a sense of community amoung the participants.

Eastern Yoga

An invitation to practice yoga in the Eastern or Indian Style that includes learning about and using mantras, mudras, breath work, and meditation along with traditional yoga asanas (poses). This experience will rejuvenate and relax as it strengthens, energizes and allows one to further explore the self. This class is recommended for all levels of yoga practice and all are welcome to this unique and fulfilling class. Eastern yoga classes will resume in January.
